Today, Labour hopeful, Conservatives morose as voters deliver their verdict on UK's election day.

The early hours of this morning saw the count begin in what turned out to be a historic election. Prime Minister Gordon Brown is facing a hung parliament after the Conservatives failed to win an overall majority and he will try to form a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats. Labour won 258 seats, the Conservatives 306 and the Liberal Democrats 57. With 650 constituencies in the UK, a party needs to win 326 seats for an overall majority.

The prime minister said he was "determined to play my part in bringing our country together" after announcing Labour would remain in power until a new government was formed.
