NAU Soccer Splits Home and Road Matchups with Utah Tech and Air Force
NAU Falls to Utah Tech 2-0 in WAC Opener
The Northern Arizona University (NAU) soccer team began Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play with a disappointing 2-0 away loss to Utah Tech on Thursday, October 6.
The Trailblazers came out strong, scoring the first goal in the third minute. NAU fought back, but could not find the equalizer before halftime.
Utah Tech extended their lead in the 75th minute, securing the victory. For NAU, goalkeeper Trinity Corcoran made four saves, but the Lumberjacks were unable to overcome the Trailblazers' offense.
Lumberjacks Bounce Back for Home Conference Win Against Air Force
NAU quickly bounced back from their loss to Utah Tech, defeating Air Force 2-0 at home on Sunday, October 9.
The Lumberjacks dominated possession and created several scoring opportunities. In the 16th minute, freshman forward Katie Carvainis scored her first collegiate goal, giving NAU an early lead.
The home team maintained their lead throughout the match, and in the 84th minute, sophomore midfielder Jordan Marada sealed the victory with an insurance goal.
NAU's Conference Record and Upcoming Schedule
With the split results, NAU holds a 1-1 record in WAC play. The Lumberjacks are currently in fifth place in the conference standings.
NAU has a busy upcoming schedule, with three road matches over the next two weeks. They travel to Grand Canyon University on Thursday, October 13, California Baptist University on Thursday, October 20, and Seattle University on Sunday, October 23.
