Eliud Kipchoge Beaten in Shock Boston Marathon Result
Evans Chebet Defends Title, Kipchoge Finishes Sixth

In a stunning upset, Eliud Kipchoge, the world record holder in the marathon, finished sixth at the 2023 Boston Marathon on Monday. Evans Chebet of Kenya successfully defended his title, crossing the finish line in 2:05:54. Kipchoge, 38, finished more than three minutes behind Chebet in 2:09:23.
Kipchoge's sixth-place finish was his worst performance in a marathon since 2013. It was the first time he had finished outside the top five since 2014. The Kenyan's disappointing performance came just weeks after he set a new personal best time of 1:02:40 in the half-marathon.
Chebet's victory was a surprise to many. He had only won one marathon before, the 2022 Chicago Marathon. However, he showed impressive form in the early stages of the Boston Marathon, breaking away from the lead pack at the 10-mile mark. He maintained a steady pace throughout the race, eventually crossing the finish line more than two minutes ahead of the second-place finisher, Gabriel Geay of Tanzania.
Kipchoge will have a chance to redeem himself next month at the London Marathon. He is the reigning champion in London and will be looking to improve on his disappointing performance in Boston.
